Bullock Farms is a 175-acre preserved farm that has been owned & operated by the Bullock family since 1860.
Located in beautiful central New Jersey, our farm is surrounded by gently rolling hills, green pastures, and open farmland. The views and sunsets are unrivaled, and give a true sense to why New Jersey is known as the Garden State.
Martin and Janet Bullock, along with their son Brett, are the 5th and 6th generations residing on Bullock Farms and farming the land, growing crops for wholesale commodity markets and agritourism.
Our main crops are pumpkins & gourds, Christmas trees, wheat, barley, soybeans, corn, and straw. Over the years, the generations who have been working the ground have seen many changes.
In the early days, alfalfa, corn, and potatoes were the main crops grown on the farm. Cranberries were grown in bogs in nearby Prospertown and processed on the farm in the Cranberry House. Potatoes and grain were grown through the 1950s, changing to tomatoes in the 1960s, and then moving to all grain from the early 1970s thru the 1990s.
Planting pumpkins in the mid-1980s started as a project for the young 6th Generation, and is now one of the main crops. We began planting Christmas trees in 1989 and opened for cut-your-own in 1999. Each year we welcome guests to visit the farm and enjoy our Fall harvest and Christmas festivities.
Seasonal Crops
We harvest our crops in Spring, Summer, and Fall. Small grains like barley, wheat, and rye are planted in the fall and then harvested during Spring and Summer which includes cutting grain and baling straw. The hay harvest takes place a few times throughout the Spring and Summer.
Corn and soybeans are planted in the spring and summer and harvested in the Fall. Hops are a perennial bine that come up every year and grow up an 18′ pole, then dying back in the Fall after the harvest.
Christmas tree seedlings are planted every Spring, those that survive will be cut for Christmas 8-10 years later.
screamin’ hill beer farm
2015 was a pivotal year for the Bullock family when Brett and his co-owners opened the doors to Screamin’ Hill Brewery, New Jersey’s first farm brewery. The farm produces the grain along with hops, fruits and vegetables for beer that is handcrafted in a rustic old barn on the property.
In August of that year, we welcomed NJ Department of Agriculture officials to toast to our opening and we received the distinct honor of being named the state’s first farm brewery. We’ve been “Growin’ Beer” for almost 10 years now!
All In The Family
For the last 164 years our ancestors have been farming the land we call home. Now our family’s seventh generation has been helping out along with many family members who volunteer during our busiest times of the year, participating in baling straw, our pumpkin harvest, Christmas tree cutting, making wreaths, and more.
